RED GOLD

I am not a very fast writer, as I am easily and often distracted, not because I don’t enjoy writing, but it is hard to get where you want when you aren’t sure where you are going. I started my latest novel, Red Gold, more than two years ago and I now have a comprehensive draft of about 110k words and I have just begun to trawl through my voluminous notes. There is also nearly as much that I have discarded along the way, which I am now reconsidering for inclusion after all. While I like what I have done, it isn’t quite right yet, and I still have choices to make about some of the things I call Fundamentals. I have found that some of these important choices are often made right at the end, when the intent and thematic focus become most clear. This may seem odd, but it is how I work, and it suits me.
