Last Summer Night

Last Summer Night

I am currently working on my second novel, Last Summer Night, which will be published early in 2019. It is a dark comedy about a suicidal teenager, but with a very positive theme. It is set in Kirkwall in the Orkneys, which is a place I have come to love because the past and the present seem to coexist, at least to me. I have a 60k word structural draft of the book and I will be in Kirkwall for ten days from the 8th August 2018 to do some research. So, if you are there and see some guy wandering around dreaming, it will probably be me.

Last Summer Night will be the second book in my Lingering Past Trilogy, which all deal with how the past impinges on everyday life. The Falmouth Son was the first. I already have an outline idea for the third book, which I will start writing early in 2019. All of the books are set next to the sea and the third book is set in the south of England, not far from where we live in East Sussex.

I am really looking froward to my trip to Kirkwall. I’m excited about being there and also taking my book another step forward but I’m also looking forward to some cooler weather – it is just too hot for me in East Sussex this summer.
